Palmeiras have made an official proposal to Boca Juniors midfielder Juan Román Riquelme, which would see the Argentine star see out the rest of his career with the Verdão.

Riquelme, 34, who confirmed his intention to leave Boca last week and has not played for them since the Copa Libertadores final defeat in July, has been offered a three-year contract by Palmeiras.

The São Paulo giants are believed to have come up with a marketing strategy to help fund the wages of the former Barcelona star.

“It’s a negotiation that the football department is making direct with businessman,” Palmeiras director of marketing, Rodrigo Geammal told Lancenet!

“We were asked to try to find an economic feasibility. We see and try to find viable sources of revenue. There is an idea that we are finalising in which we can enable marketing activities to complement the payment.”

The idea for outside investment in paying wages is a common occurrence in Brazil, as shown most recently when São Paulo signed defender Lucio from Juventus and struck deals with a car dealership firm and Visa to fund his salary.
