Itaúna-MG 0-2 Fluminense

Fluminense continued their 100% start to the Copa São Paulo 2013 as their young side secured a 2-0 victory over Mineiro minnows Itaúna.

In an end-to-end first period, neither side were able to carve out clear-cut opportunities in front of goal. Fluminense enjoyed the majority of possession, but were unable to string together cohesive attacking moves.

After the break, though, the Rio de Janeiro’s possession told as they took the lead early in the second-half. Impressive full-back Pablo steamed forward down the right flank and crossed for Biro Biro to head home.

The goal ended the match as a contest, with Fluminense never really troubled in defence.

They continued, though, to struggle in attacking areas and it was only in the final moments that forward Biro Biro was able to add a second after showing excellent close control from a lofted through ball.

Man of the Match: Pablo (Fluminense) – A wonderful performance from the right-back, whose surging runs forward caused Itaúna all sorts of problems. Tall, quick and strong, the full-back looks to have all the natural attributes to succeed, as well as good technique. Contributed an assist for his side’s opening goal.

Itaúna-MG: Otávio; Rodrigo, Andrey, Breno; Luizão, Dupin, Juninho, Rodolfo, Lujan; Pacote, Warlei.

Fluminense XI: Marcos; Pablo, Wellington Carvalho, Léo Lelis, Ronan; Luiz Fernando, Willian, Robert, Gustavo Scarpa; Kenedy, Biro Biro.
