Lyon winger Michel Bastos has congratulated lowly Epinal after they knocked the holders out of the Coupe de France on Sunday.
The third-tier club beat the Ligue 1 leaders 4-2 on penalties, following a 3-3 thriller, in which Gueida Fofana and Bakary Kone missed their spot-kicks
However, Bastos has graciously congratulated his side’s opponents whilst also sharing his teammates’ upset.
The Brazilian said: “It is sad because we were the defending champions.
“We had fun playing the Coupe de France last year so it’s a shame to be eliminated.
“We must congratulate the team that caused us problems.
“In this competition you need a bit of luck and we did not have it. The pitch was not easy to play our game, but we will not hide behind it.”
Lyon currently sit top of Ligue 1 after 19 games, level on points with Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille.
