Botafogo have confirmed the signing of former Brazil Under-20 forward Henrique, purchasing 50% of the player’s ownership from São Paulo.

Henrique, 21, was loaned to both Sport Recife and Granada in 2012, but failed to make a significant impact at either side—having also been linked with Premier League side QPR in January 2012.

With Botafogo short of strikers, though, they are prepared to offer the youngster another chance at a big side and have quickly moved to secure his survaces.

The move was confirmed by Sport director of football Guilherme Beltrão, who had hoped that the star would remain at the club on loan in 2013.

“We know that Botafogo have paid money, so we can’t compete,” Beltrão told Gazeta Esportiva. “We were looking for a loan, we spoke with them and were the preference of São Paulo. However, they ended up selling the rights and now we must look for other names.

“I still can’t say who the alternatives are. Botafogo are in Serie A and we are not. We must be, above all, realistic.”
