Palermo chief Pietro Lo Monaco has confirmed the club are in talks with Roma concerning a deal for versatile midfielder Marquinho.

The Sicilians are attempting to push through a number of transfers with the opening of the January transfer window, including deals for Napoli’s Andrea Dossena, Malaga man Diego Buonanotte and Genoa forward Ciro Immobile.

Lo Monaco has also confirmed Palermo are interested in signing 26-year-old Marquinho from their Serie A rivals.

He told Sky Sport Italia: “As for Marquinho, we have spoken to Roma.

“We’ll wait until he returns to Italy after their American training camp to see if there are the right conditions for a transfer.”

Marquinho joined Roma on a six-month loan last January before putting pen to paper on a permanent deal with the Stadio Olimpico outfit in June.

The transfer was the Brazilian’s first permanent move away from his native country, where he previously represented Palmeiras, Botafogo and Figueirense, before joining Fluminense in 2009.
