Grêmio are waiting to hear back from Portuguese giants FC Porto over their offer to sign midfielder Souza on a permanent deal, after the loan agreement between the two clubs came to an end in December.

Souza, 23, played 60 games for Grêmio last season, with only Leo Gago and Marcelo Moreno coming close to as many appearances, and scored three goals, as well as contributing four assists.

With the loan deal coming to an end, Souza has returned to Porto and will start training with the club on Thursday while the two clubs look to come to an agreement over the player’s future.

Lancenet! are reporting that Porto have valued the midfielder at €10 million, but that is too much for the Porto Alegre club, who have counter-offered with a bid of €3 million for 50% of the player’s economic rights.

Grêmio are now waiting to hear back from Porto but are confident as the Portuguese club have made it clear they want to sell the player.
