Having failed in their attempts to sign centre-back João Paulo from São Paulo, Grêmio have reportedly turned their attention to Corinthians’ Anderson Polga—who is believed to be leaving the Morumbi this January.

Anderson Polga, 34, returned to Brazilian football from Sporting CP last summer, after nine years in European football with the Lisbon giants.

However, with Corinthians in the process of recruiting defensive options for the 2013 season, he is set to be allowed to move on in the coming weeks.

“Polga will decide this week whether to remain in São Paulo or remain here,” agent Gilmar Veloz told Radio Gaúcha this Tuesday. “He made a decision with his family and he will let me know. There is always this speculation, but officially there is nothing.”

A native of Rio Grande do Sul, Polga began his career at Grêmio between 1999-2003, earning 11 caps for Brazil during that period, including playing a part in the country’s 2002 World Cup success.
