Flamengo central midfielder Renato Abreu has signed a new one-year contract at the club, following recent speculation over his future.

Renato Abreu, 34, first joined the Rubro-Negro for a two-year spell in 2005 and later returned for a second time in 2010 after a spell in the Middle-East.

In his two periods at the club, he has won both the Copa do Brasil in 2006 and Rio de Janeiro state championship in 2011, becoming a popular figure at the Gávea. However, his performances have dropped off substantially over the past year.

Next up on Flamengo’s list of renewals for 2013 is fellow veteran, right-back Léo Moura. The full-back has been offered a deal by the club, but is yet to respond to the side’s offer.
