Botafogo are close to sealing the signing of Coritiba striker Anderson Aquino on a season-long loan.

Aquino, 26, was initially targeted by the Rio de Janeiro club back in July after losing Loco Abreu on-loan to Figueirense and Germán Herrera to Emirates Club, but talks with the Coritiba board proved unsuccessful. However, it seems that Botafogo have finally managed to land the striker.

“Apparently, he (Anderson Aquino) now performs with the cast of Botafogo in early January,”President Vilson Ribeiro told Lancenet!

“Everything is moving towards that. He has a contract with Coritiba until the end of 2014 and will be 12 months on loan.”

After failing to get Aquino in July, Botafogo signed Rafael Marques, who had been playing in Japan with Omiya Ardija, but the move has not worked out as coach Oswaldo de Oliveira had hoped.

Botafogo are said to be after two strikers during the close season but so far have seen moves for Internacional’s Dagoberto and Al-Ahli’s Grafite fall through.
