Bernard: I want to stay Atlético Mineiro
Atlético Mineiro forward Bernard has quickly become a target for big European clubs after his inspirational form helped the Belo Horizonte club to second in the Brasileirão last season, however the player has revealed he wants to stay at Atlético next season.
Bernard, 20, was one of the breakthrough stars of the 2012 season and earned his first call up to the Brazilian national team squad for the Superclásico de las Américas against Argentina in September this year, eventually making his debut in the second leg in November.
However, the attacking midfielder, who was recently subject of a €11.5 million bid from Russian team Terek Grozny, has revealed he wants to win a major trophy before leaving the club.
"I said that my desire is to stay at Atlético," he told Rádio Itatiaia.
"I'd like to win a major trophy before leaving. I will play in the Copa Libertadores 2013 with Atlético and will be aiming to win it."
Club president Alexandre Kalil is determined to hold onto their key players for next season and has already added to the squad with the signings of Luan, Gilberto Silva, Rosinei and Alecsandro.
"The arrival of players is valid, we need to strengthen for next season, which will have many games for the team," added Bernard.
