Nilton joins Cruzeiro after walking out on Vasco da Gama
Cruzeiro have signed Nilton after the defensive midfielder walked out on his contract with Vasco da Gama earlier this week.
The 25-year-old had a deal with Vasco until December 2014 but decided to terminate it due to unpaid wages.
Cruzeiro had confirmed the signing on their official website on Saturday but immediately withdrew the news, claiming there were still unsolved issues with Vasco.
In order to avoid legal action from Nilton’s former club, Cruzeiro have loaned Pedro Ken and Sandro Silva on season-long deals in return for their co-operation.
However, this causes another difficulty as Silva is actually owned by Spanish side Malaga, who he joined in 2010.
Nilton, who started his career with Corinthians before moving to Vasco in 2009, is the third player to leave the Estádio São Januário since the end of the Brazilian season.
Veteran midfielder Juninho moved to MLS outfit the New York Red Bulls and goalkeeper Fernando Prass joined Palmeiras.
Meanwhile, Vasco coach Marcelo Oliveira has recruited Diego Souza, Egidio, and Uelliton.
