Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has admitted he expected Ligue 1 to be easier than he has found it since his move from AC Milan.

The Brazilian defender moved to the Parc des Princes for a fee of €42 million this summer, following three years in Italy.

Silva has settled in well to life at his new club, who currently sit top of the table, but has admitted he expected the division to be easier than it is.

The 28-year-old said: “I thought this championship would be easier and it surprises me more and more each time.

“I have played poorly in some games, thinking it would be easy, but the attackers are very strong and they put me in trouble in defence because I’m not a very physical player.

“It is difficult for me to mark this type of player. The Italian championship is much more based on tactics.”

PSG, who are joint top of Ligue 1 alongisde Lyon and Marseille, are currently preparing for a trip to Brest on Friday.
