Palmeiras have made contact with Botafogo left-back Márcio Azevedo to discuss a possible transfer ahead of the 2013 season.

Azevedo, 26, who shone as a replacement for the departed Bruno Cortez at the Alvinegro this season is reported to be open to the deal, despite Palmeiras featuring in Serie B next campaign.

With the Verdão having qualified for the Copa Libertadores, despite their relegation, they have set about strengthening their squad with the recent signings of Fernando Prass and Ayrton.

Sandro Becker, the player"s agent, told Lancenet: "César [Sampaio, Palmeiras director of football] called me, but it has not gone further. We did not discuss values, but he called to talk about Marcio. It was an enquiry. Now, it depends more on them than me. They need to talk to Botafogo."

Regarding Palmeiras" relegation, he added: "I don"t think it complicates things. Palmeiras are a big club, with tradition. São Paulo is the best market place, there is no problem. Today, Série B is also as well regarded as the top flight. Besides that, they have the Libertadores. We need to analyse the whole [situation]. I don"t see a problem."

Palmeiras signed full-back Juninho from Figueirense last January, but the best left-back of the 2011 Brasileirão season struggled in his first season at the Palestra Italia.
