According to reports in Brazil, São Paulo have turned their attention to signing Juventus centre-back Lúcio, having finalised a raft of attacking additions in recent days.

Lúcio, 34, has been vocal in expressing his disappointment at Juventus in recent times, having found his first-team opportunities at the Turin outfit limited.

São Paulo are hoping to build a squad that can challenge for the Copa Libertadores next season and believe that they require another leading centre-back for next season.

The Paulista club added youngster Rafael Toloi to their squad midway through the season and he has quickly struck up an impressive partnership with the towering Rhodolfo.

However, the club’s directors are believed to consider Toloi too inexperienced to mount a challenge in the Libertadores and hope to secure an experienced replacement ahead of the 2013 season.

Should they fail to secure Lúcio, it is thought that São Paulo will look to secure a player of similar profile—with Uruguay’s Diego Lugano an option.
