Santos are set to continue their pursuit of AC Milan’s Robinho after the club president revealed that an early bid was rejected.

The bid, according to Sky Sports, was thought to be in the region of £4.8m for the former Seleção forward but the Rossoneri turned down the offer.

“We made an official written offer for Robinho. We received a response from Milan. But negotiations continue. They are not over yet,” said Santos president Luiz Alvaro de Olivieira Ribeiro.

“I met Milan representatives this week. We have been talking every day. It’s like a chess game. One piece is moved here, another there. But I still have hope.”

Robinho’s agent has denied rumours that the Brazilian is set to return to Brazil and to former club Santos in January.
