Cruzeiro striker Anselmo Ramon gave his testimony to police in Camaçari on Thursday night, regarding the incident that left one cyclist dead and another injured.

According to reports, the player explained that he lost control of his Chrysler 300 after swerving to avoid a dog on the highway, before colliding with the two resting cyclists.

The striker, who is now disqualified from driving, denies that he had been drinking before the accident and explained that he had been travelling to his daughter’s birthday party when the incident occurred.

It had previously been alleged by the surviving cyclist that the player had been speeding at the time of the incident, whilst initial reports had suggested that the player may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

The striker missed two consecutive calls to give evidence, but finally emerged on Thursday night in order to avoid the press attention. João Uzzum, the delegate responsible for the case also heard evidence from the surviving cyclist and witnesses.
