Chelsea will face Corinthians in the Club World Cup final after they strolled to a convincing 3-1 victory over Mexico’s Monterrey.
Goals from Juan Mata, Fernando Torres and a Darvin Chavez own goal secured a place in the final for Rafa Benitez’s side.
Ramires was benched for the clash whilst Oscar started behind Fernando Torres and David Luiz was deployed as a defensive midfielder.
Chelsea set the ball rolling with a fine team move, Ashley Cole playing a one two with Oscar, and the Brazilian’s delightful backheel allowed Cole to play a reverse pass to Mata who curled in a finish at the near post.
After the break, Chelsea were quick out of the blocks and Fernando Torres’ deflected effort put them 2-0 up before Mata’s cross was diverted by Chavez into his own net for the third.
Aldo de Negris netted a late consolation goal for Monterrey as Chelsea go through to face Corinthians in the final.
The final will take place on Sunday at 10.30am UK time. Egypt’s Al-Ahly and Monterrey will contest the 3rd place playoff.
