Chelsea are reportedly interested in battling Inter Milan for the signature of Corinthians midfielder Paulinho during the January transfer window.

According to reports in a number of British newspapers, the Stamford Bridge outfit’s interim Coach Rafa Benitez is looking to strengthen the team’s midfield department next month.

Paulinho, who could face the Blues during the FIFA Club World Cup final on Sunday, is reportedly identified as one of Chelsea’s prime targets.

Blues defender and fellow Brazilian David Luiz has also reportedly encouraged his side to revive their interest in the midfielder.

Italian giants Inter have been tracking the 24-year-old since the summer and were expected to make a move in January as an intended replacement for Wesley Sneijder.

However, the Brazil international is believed to have a buyout clause of around €20million, and most recently suggested that he wants to stay with Corinthians into 2013.
