Ponte Preta attacking midfielder Nikão has spoken of his joy at a successful loan spell at the club this season, having silenced some of his previous doubters.

Nikão, 20, had arrived at the club from parent side Atlético Mineiro under somewhat of a cloud following a disappointing adaptation to senior football since joining the club in 2010.

Since arriving in Campinas, the youngster has become a crucial member of Ponte Preta’s side, but admits he is unsure what the future holds.

“It has been very special. I arrived at this point, that many people did not believe I could reach. I am a starter for Ponte Preta,” the midfielder told Gazeta Esportiva.

“It has been very special to me. I have played more than 30 games in the best championship in the country.”

Regarding his future, with his loan spell at Ponte Preta coming to an end, Nikão added:

“Let’s see what is best for both me and Ponte Preta. They were the club who welcomed me and gave me opportunities.

“I’m sure that God will show me the best path and, if it is here, I want to do more for Ponte.”
