Former Vasco da Gama goalkeeper Fernando Prass has signed a three-year deal to join Palmeiras, having had his contract at Vasco terminated due to the club’s ongoing financial difficulties.

Fernando Prass, 34, is reported by Lancenet to have already undergone medical examinations and put pen-to-paper on his move to the recently relegated Paulista giants, which is now just awaiting official confirmation.

The newspaper reports that the goalkeeper had initially been reluctant to sign for the Verdão, but has been offered a wage increase of more than 100% on his previous salary to leave Rio de Janeiro.

Vasco had been looking into the possibility of reversing the decision of the Regional Labour Court to allow Prass to terminate his contract due to unpaid wages, but is now thought unlikely that an appeal would be successful.

Prass will become the first major signing for a Palmeiras side preparing for the unusual situation of life in the second-tier of Brazilian football, as well as the Copa Libertadores.
