Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes' wages scuppered move to Palmeiras
Palmeiras president Arnaldo Tirone has revealed that Palmeiras were in talks with Tottenham in the summer over goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes but the Brazilian's high wages proved a stubling block.
Gomes has found himself out of favour under Andre Villas Boas' regime and was known to be looking for a move with a deal with PSV also breaking down over his excessive wages.
Tirone told Lancenet: "Gomes was offered to us but the negotations didn't work out, his salary is very high."
The president also revealed that he sttempted to sign former Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar before he eventually signed for Premier League newboys QPR.
Wages were also a problem with the former Seleção goalkeeper and Palmeiras could not afford the excessive salary: "It's similar to what happened with Julio Cesar."
Heurelho Gomes has now finds himself behind American goalkeeper Brad Friedel and Frenchman Hugo Lloris in the picking order at Tottenham this season.
