Former Santos and Brazil striker Serginho Chulapa believes that, in spite of recent reports linking Santos to a host of strikers, the focus should be on restoring André to his former levels.

André, 22, rejoined his former club on-loan until the middle of next season, but has faced criticism over his fitness and performances over the past six months.

Serginho, though, believes that the player can still return to the performance levels that helped the club to the Copa do Brasil title in 2010.

“We have talked a lot. It’s great that this kid listens to me,” Serginho told Terra. “I said that a player of his ability needs to get back to how he was before we sold him. I believe he has everything to get back to that level.”

André has scored seven times in 21 games since returning to the club on-loan, but failed to reproduce the form of old.

With Santos currently looking at the likes of Lucas Viatri, Robinho, Kléber and the already-signed Willian José to lead the line next season, it does not appear that Serginho’s wish will be granted.
