Sandro’s Tottenham have qualified for the final 32 of the Europa League after a 3-1 win over Panathinaikos.

Vote for Sandro in the 2012 Samba Gold Trophy

Spurs merely needed a draw to progress and they overcame a nervy 70 minutes before Jermain Defoe and an own goal secured the points.

Sandro partnered Englishman Tom Carroll in midfield as they set about controlling the game for Spurs.

Emmanuel Adebayor opened the scoring after the half hour mark before Zeca equalised for the Greeks early in the second half to set up a nervy finish.

An unfortunate own goal from goalkeeper Karnezis gifted Tottenham the lead before Jermain Defoe put the game beyond doubt with a finish in the 83rd minute.

Spurs finish second in Group J behind leaders Lazio and could potentially face the likes of Lyon and Bordeaux in the last 32.

Sandro is one of our 30 nominees for the 2012 Samba Gold Trophy which recognises the best performing Brazilian in Europe this season.
