Alexandre Pato to miss AC Milan clash with Zenit St Petersburg on Tuesday
AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato will miss his team’s final Uefa Champions League group match at home to Zenit St Petersburg on Tuesday with a thigh injury.
Pato, 23, whose career over the past year has been disrupted by injury, scored in the Italians 3-1 victory over Anderlecht in the previous round of matches, but will not be risked at San Siro for the arrival of the Russians.
"Pato is still in pain and with his history, you better be cautious and make him take the field only when he will be in a better position," said Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri.
The Brazil international, who has suffered repeated thigh injuries over the past three seasons, is also a doubt for Sunday’s Serie A fixture against Torino in Turin.
The player is also in the news for revealing that he was unhappy in Milan and would like to leave the club, if possible, during the January transfer window.
However, Milan director Adriano Galliani insisted that neither Pato, nor fellow Brazilian Robinho, would be leaving the club.
He said: “"Santos may be interested in Robinho, but it is not our intention to sell.
"There are no offers for any of our players at this point in time. I think that Pato is on the mend and everything has been cleared up with his agent.”
