AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy has made a superb start to the Serie A season, scoring 12 goals in 19 games, and club director Adriano Galliani has praised the young star, comparing him to Brazil striker Neymar.

El Shaarawy, who turned 20 last week, has quickly become a vital player for the struggling Rossoneri this season, and Galliani was full of phrase for the player nicknamed “The Pharaoh”.

He said: “He is above our expectations. He just turned 20 last week and I do not know how many strikers of his age are scoring well. Worldwide, only Neymar.”

Born in Italy to an Egyptian father and an Italian mother, El Shaarawy joined Milan last season from Genoa, after impressing on-loan at Serie B side Padova.

“When he came from Padova, he had a number of physical problems, but now he is well and is one of the great talents that are in the world.

“El Shaarawy can put the ball wherever, with a great sense of purpose,” added Galliani.

Milan currently sit seventh in the Serie A table, 11 points behind leaders Juventus.
