Brazilian news website Terra are reporting that Atlético Mineiro are hoping to bring former striker Diego Tardelli back to the club for next season.

Tardelli, 27, spent two successful seasons in Belo Horizonte from 2009 to 2011, after moving from Flamengo, and would be welcomed back to the club with open arms by the supporters.

The striker left Atlético in March 2011 to join Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala for a reported fee of €7.5 million but failed to settle at the club and, in January this year, moved on again to the Middle East to join Qatari team Al-Gharafa.

However, bringing the player back to Brazil will not be that easy, despite Al-Gharafa letting it be known they would be open for a transfer. The board at the Qatari club are said to want to around £5 million for the player and are not keen on a loan deal.

Atlético Mineiro president Alexandre Kalil is keen to put together a strong and experienced team for the 2013 season as they hope to challenge strongly for both the Brasileirão title and the Copa Libertadores.
