With Anderson set to start only his second Premier League match of the season on Wednesday night, after a string of impressive cup and substitute appearances, he has received backing from team-mate Anders Lindegaard.

Anderson, 24, has seen his career in England disrupted by a string of injuries, but there is a growing feeling that he has attributes to his game that make him important to the Manchester United team.

With Sir Alex Ferguson’s side having been criticised for their inability to control games in midfield, there are many who believe that Anderson’s directness and ability to retain the ball would offer the Red Devils a new dimension.

Lindegaard was certainly impressed with his colleague’s showing against QPR on the weekend, which was hailed by manager Ferguson as “match-winning”.

The Danish keeper told a press conference: “Anderson turned the match around. He is one of the best players in the world at running with the ball, passing it and keeping the dynamic motion. He is a brilliant player.”
