New Grêmio president Fábio Koff admits interest in signing Cruzeiro midfielder Walter Montillo
The new Grêmio president Fábio Koff has revealed the club have big ambitions for next season and, as a statement of intent, are looking at the possibility of signing Cruzeiro midfielder Walter Montillo.
Montillo, 28, has been made available by Cruzeiro with director of football Valdir Barbosa saying on Monday that, if the right deal can be found, they would be willing to part with the Argentine.
And Koff, who will officially take over from current president Paulo Odone in December, told Lancenet that Grêmio are interested in the player.
Koff said: "He is a very good player and Cruzeiro admits the possibility of selling. It is far from what Grêmio can afford, but in any case we will examine this matter because we have an interest in this athlete at the club. Grêmio's ambitions are very big for 2013."
There maybe competition from Santos and São Paulo for the player, who is valued over €10 million by the Belo Horizonte club, and São Paulo may have the edge in the race, as they appear to be willing to include Cicero or Casemiro as part of the transfer.
