Montpellier defender Hilton delights at Samba Gold trophy nomination
Montpellier defender Vitorino Hilton has expressed his delight at being nominated for the Samba Gold trophy 2012, which will be awarded to the best Brazilian in European football this year.
Hilton, 35, enjoyed a first Ligue 1 title success after moving to Montpellier in 2011-12 after several years at Marseille. Now, for his part in the club's against-the-odds triumph, the veteran centre-back has received his first nomination for the annual award.
"It is with great satisfaction that I discovered the list of 30 Brazilians nominated for the Samba Gold trophy," Hilton told Sambafoot.
"After many years in France it is wonderful news. I am very happy to be on the list [of nominees].
"I want to thank all those who will vote and who vote for me. It's one of the best news I have had in my career."
The public vote for the award will begin on Saturday, 1 December and run until the end of the month, when the winner will be officially announced here on Sambafoot.com.
