Flamengo director Zinho believes the Rio giants need four quality reinforcements if they are to challenge for trophies next season.

In an interview with Radio Globo, Zinho, 45, said that they are looking for quality players around the age 25-27 to make the club competitive again.

He said: “A foundation has been formed, in which we also have experienced players. Now we need three or four top players with ambition, that come with age and dreaming of winning the State championship, Copa do Brasil, Brasileirão, and also a call to the Brazil squad.”

Renato Augusto is one of the players that has been linked with Flamengo this week, and Zinho said this was partly due to a habit that the club has of bringing back former players.

“We are looking for players regardless of whether they played for Flamengo before. The problem is that the aces are not in abundance in the market, and in addition, other clubs want them. I want a victorious Flamengo.”

And the director also reviewed the job done by coach Dorival Junior, saying it was both reasonable and good.

“I think it’s reasonable because I am not satisfied with the results. But Dorival grabbed a team assembled by Vanderlei (Luxembourg) and Joel (Santana) halfway through the season, he had to resort to Serie B players, and got the results. Now with a little more, we can go further,” he added.
