Zenit St Petersburg boss Luciano Spalletti has slammed strikers Hulk and Alexander Kerzhakov for their subdued performances during their 2-2 draw against Malaga.

The Russians went two goals down in the Champions League clash and the coach believes the duo gave up hopes of a comeback.

Spalletti told reporters: “Without doubt they can function better. Going two goals down within the first 10 minutes broke their spirit.

“The strong influence on their game was what happened in the first half. We ended up having to practically start the game at two nil down.

“In those moments, a lot of players start to play selfishly but you need to play as simply as possible and as quickly possible.”

However, the coach did admit that they would be seeing more of the two strikers as a partnership as Zenit go into the last Champions League group match hoping that other results go their way.
