Brazil coach Mano Menezes has revealed he is pleased with his side’s Superclassico title win against Argentina, despite losing 2-1 on the night.

The Seleção had a narrow 2-1 win heading into the game but two goals from Argentine striker Ignacio Scocco and one from Fluminense’s Fred eventually took the tie to penalties.

Brazil were second best on the night but were able to win the shootout and secure an unconvincing victory to retain their title.

Menezes said: “It was an unusual game and the squad was not great. But we behaved like a team that was playing a real competition.

“It is important to incorporate this attitude in games like this. Some players have sent me positive signals.

“It was a great year for the squad and the fans have good prospects again.”

The result means Brazil are heading into 2013 unbeaten in their last eight games,  with a game against England on the horizon.
