Vasco’s players have insisted they are focused on matters on the pitch despite going unpaid for two months.

The club recorded a 2-1 win over Coritiba as matters off the pitch grow worse as they struggle to pay even for basic amenities as running water was cut off at the training complex last month.

Bastos Felipe told reporters after the win: “When we’re on the pitch we have to forget it and not think about it.”

Goalkeeper Fernando Prass also added: “Of course no one is satisfied with not being paid, but leaving Vasco never crossed my mind.

“I have a contract with Vasco. We know how much football changes in a year.”

The club has reiterated its confidence in Roberto Dinamite’s group: “The board is striving to pay the players, and on the pitch we have to show the football that brought us to Vasco.”
