Real Madrid legend Luís Figo has slammed Brazilian striker Adriano for his approach to the game and blamed him for his own downfall.

The former Seleção international recently left boyhood club Flamengo after yet more disciplinary problems.

Adriano has had a lot of off-the-field trouble during his career, including battles with alcohol, weight-gain, depression and contract terminations.

Figo, who played alongside the Brazilian for four years at the Nerazzurri, believes Adriano lacked dedication and professionalism.

The 40-year-old said: “Adriano is the classic example of how to destroy your talent.

“Talent is secondary though, if you do not balance it with dedication and professionalism – two things he completely lacked.”

However, Figo, who represented Portugal 127 times, then singled out Brail legend Ronaldo as a prime example of how to become a successful player.

He added: “Ronaldo on the other hand was an incredible talent.

“When he was not having physical problems he was unstoppable – the best of all in my opinion.”
