Grêmio’s Gilberto Silva has slammed the controversial decision to give Millionarios a penalty in the dying stages of the Copa Sudamericana clash.

Wason Rentería converted the penalty to send the Brazilians crashing out of the tournament and left fans fuming.

Gilberto told reporters after the match: “It wasn’t a penalty. Werley didn’t touch the player, he went down and the referee gave a penalty.

“It’s frustrating, the first half we were playing well, but we stopped playing in the second half.”

Marcelo Moreno also added to Gilberto’s frustration shouting into the microphone: “This is amazing! The first game he did not give penalties to us. This is incredible!”

The players were forced to leave the pitch by police after the final whistle as they confronted the referee, with Elano kicking out at one of the assistants.

Grêmio will now be focusing their attention on the next game against Portuguesea as they continue to secure a place in next season’s Copa Libertadores.
