63′ – Falcao turns 25 yards out and looks to play home Martinez. Cut out by Dani Alves.

01.29 GMT – Brazil had their chances in that half, but poor decision making and a fine save kept the scores level. Colombia eventually made their possession and pressure tell with a fine goal.

HALF-TIME: Brazil 0-1 Colombia – The better side are ahead and Mano Menezes’ bold selections are currently back-firing.

43′ GOAL Brazil 0-1 Colombia (Cuadrado) – He’s looked dangerous all game. The full-back capitalises on space behind Castán and fires powerfully home.

42′ – Ramires goes for a charge forward after Brazil win the ball in midfield, before Kaká’s curled effort flies narrowly over the bar.

41′ – Brazil get very lucky. Leandro Castán is robbed by Jackson Martinez, but the referee blows for a free-kick.

39′ – Brazil came under some sustained pressure there. They have Paulinho to thank for the scores remaining level. The stand-out player for the Seleção thus far.

38′ – Woah! After a Brazil attack fizzles out with Thiago Neves, Colombia counter and only a brilliant covering tackle from Paulinho denies Falcao a strike at goal.

30′ – Falcao is lurking once more. This time James’ low cross is cut out by Diego Alves with the striker lying in wait.

29′ – Of the two surprise choices for Brazil, then. Leandro Castán has stuck manfully to his job so far, but has found life difficult against the tricky Cuadrado. Thiago Neves has barely been seen.

26′ – Falcao wastes what looks to be a dangerous situation. The striker runs directly at the defence but quickly finds himself outnumbered.

25′ – Going to be a yellow card soon you feel as two free-kicks are awarded to Brazil in quick succession. Both teams guilty.

22′ – James Rodriguez in acres of space to cross from the left this time but mishits his ball into the centre for a goal-kick. Should do better.

21′ – Brazil are pressing Colombia high up the pitch, but the underdogs are keeping possession excellently so far.

20′ – Armero is exploiting the space offered by Dani Alves on the right and only a good David Luiz block prevents a cross into the centre for Falcao.

7′ – Colombia attack threatens to tear through Brazil, but a sloppy touch from forward Martinez allows David Luiz to emerge with the ball. Colombia had numbers over there.

4′ – Free-kick given to Colombia in the middle of the park as Guarin is fouled by Ramires. Once more they resist launching the ball into the area.

3′ – This game is waiting for no-one now it is finally underway. Colombia take a corner, which is cleared, before Brazil quickly look to counter from a subsequent free-kick.

2′ – Competitive opening minute or two. Brazil mainly in possession but being harried by some energetic Colombian defending.

1′ – We have kick-off in New Jersey. The 1000th game of the Seleção is underway.

00.37 GMT: Former Milan team-mates Mario Yepes and Thiago Silva exchange pleasantaries in the centre-circle and the Colombia side then gathers in a huddle. Still no start.

00.35 GMT: Still no sign of the match beginning. Not unusual for matches involving South American teams.

00.33 GMT: A passionate rendition of the Colombian anthem from the crowd in New Jersey and now the officials and players are receiving medals. Bizarre scenes.

00.30 GMT: Anthem time and, for some reason, the Star Spangled Banner is getting airtime. Bit odd ahead of Brazil-Colombia.

00.29 GMT: Just a minute or two from kick-off then in what promises to be a lively encounter. Both sides excellent in attack, with question marks over their defences.

00.15 GMT: The 1000th international fixture in the history of the Seleção Brasileira is upon us and Mano Menezes will be hoping his new-look side can overcome a Colombia team flying high in South American World Cup qualifying.

The opposition, though, are full of in-form attacking players with coach Jose Peckerman including Porto duo James Rodriguez and Jackson Martinez alongside Falcao in attack.

For Brazil, the inclusion of Leandro Castán and Thiago Neves out of their natural positions has raised eyebrows, whilst PSG-bound €47 million youngster Lucas Moura is out-of-favour and starts from the subs bench.

How will Kaká perform in his third game since his return? Will the lack of a central striker back-fire? Will Mano Menezes’ job be under threat with in defeat? The game throws up a series of important questions ahead of Brazil’s 2014 World Cup campaign.
