Arsenal left-back André Santos has emerged as a possible transfer target for São Paulo as the club look to identify reinforcements for next season.

Santos, 29, is being considered along with Internacional defender Fabrício to fill the left-back spot at the club, after Bruno Cortês, who was signed at the beginning of the year, failed to impress.

Head coach Ney Franco told Globo Esporte: “We are in the market looking for a player on the left side of defence. Let’s not talk about names so not to derail the negotiations, but we are studying some options. It’s not necessary to talk about right-back. I feel very calm with Paulo Miranda and Douglas.”

Santos moved to Arsenal last summer from Turkish giants Fenerbahçe but has struggled to impose himself at the club and has at times looked out of his depth in the Premier League.

Despite his age São Paulo believe that Santos has the skills they are after, and the fact that he used to play for Corinthians will not be a factor in whether or not they pursue their interest.
