Atlético Mineiro full-back Marcos Rocha hopes that the club put in maximum effort to ensure that midfield star Ronaldinho remains in Belo Horizonte next season.

Ronaldinho, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign has been linked with a move to both Fluminense and Santos in recent times, with the Seleção star available on a free transfer.

His team-mate, whose own contract expires next year, has appealed to the club’s directors to ensure that theye can call upon the playmaker for their Copa Libertadores campaign in 2013.

“There is a lot of interest in him now. When he was in that bad spell, nobody wanted him,” the full-back told Terra. “I hope he stays, he is very important.”

“We know his importance to our season. In six months here he has changed the image of Atlético. He is important and I hope the president does everything to keep him here.”

Marcos Rocha is one of four Atlético-MG players to have been called-up to the Brazil squad for the upcoming Superclassico return fixture with Argentina alongside Réver, Leonardo Silva and Bernard.
