Despite a poor start to his Wolfsburg career it seems Diego has finally adapted to life at the Bundesliga club and has confirmed that he is not thinking of a return to Atlético, where he spent last season on-loan.

Diego, 27, joined Wolfsburg in 2010 from Juventus for €15.5 million but failed to shine in his first season, and then was shipped out to Spain last year to play for Atlético Madrid. After winning the Uefa Europa League with Atlético, Diego returned to Germany and has been in sparkling form so far this year.

And on Sunday he continued this with two goals in the 3-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. The player told Madrid newspaper AS that he is enjoying life back in Germany, that he is not thinking of a move and praised the quality of the Bundesliga.

“My life is in Germany. I do not think about going back to Atlético. At no time was there contact to return. I’m very focused here, and my team needs me to be well.

“I have no doubt that this is one of the strongest leagues in the world. The organization, the fans, the stadiums, the atmosphere … it’s a spectacular thing for a player. The level is getting stronger, and it will improve.”
