Botafogo midfielder Fellype Gabriel was surprised by his call-up to the Brazilian national team for the Superclassico das Americas tie on 21 November against Argentina as he was not even aware the match was taking place.
Gabriel, 26, who up until now had only represented Brazil’s youth teams, told reporters:
“It has still not sunk in. I did not know the game was on, it took me by surprise. If I play then many thanks to my colleagues and the board, who always supported me here at Botafogo. I hope to do my best.”
After the initial surprise of getting the call from Mano Menezes, Fellype Gabriel is hoping he can impress enough to get further chances.
“It depends on how I’m playing, not only in the squad, but also in Botafogo, the games that I do here, as well as there. My desire is great to continue to grow and I hope to get more chances with the national team.”
