Brazil legend Pelé has undergone hip replacement surgery in São Paulo after his longstanding hip problems.
The 72-year-old went under the knife in the Albert Einstein hospital after initially attending an appointment for routine checks.
The former Seleção striker’s advisor Jose Owens told reporters that the surgery was a success and the three time World Cup winner would make a full recovery.
“Everything went very well. It was a simple surgery. He will probably be discharged tomorrow.”
Pelé will look to get back to full fitness as he continues to campaign around the world promoting the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
