Fluminense defender Thiago Neves has praised teammates Diego Cavalieri and Fred by stating that he believes the pair deserve to be in Mano Menezes’ Brazil squad.

The two players have been instrumental in Flu’s title winning campaign, with Fred currently leading the Brasileirão’s scoring charts with 19 goals whilst the former Liverpool stopper has played 33 times this season.

Thiago Neves believes that the two 29-year-olds deserve to be called up by the Seleção coach for their impressive performances this term.

He said: “The best player in the league is Diego Cavalieri. He was instrumental, as well as Fred.

“The dedication in his practices and games was impressive. In my opinion, they deserve a chance in the national squad.

“However, the boss is Mano and everyone must respect he seeks the best.”

Neither of the players have been selected for Brazil’s upcoming friendly with Colombia.
