The league’s leading scorer grabbed a brace and an assist yesterday to help Flu overcome relegation-threatened Palmeiras 3-2.
Fred, who now has 19 goals this season, has hailed the unity of the staff and coaches as the main factor that made the club’s fourth title win possible.
The 29-year-old said: “After all that we’ve experienced in this championship, the efforts of all who believed in the project, Abel Braga and his staff – I congratulate everyone.
“Today I am happy to say that this group is the most united I have known. We deserved this title.
“Only our families know how we have lived. I am happy because we showed a perfect state of mind after so many struggles and sacrifices, with players who are injured and came back even stronger. This is a wonderful group.”
There are still three rounds remaining in the Brazilian season but Fluminense have opened up a 10 point gap at the top of the table.
