A vintage Fred performance inspired Fluminense to their fourth league title after winning 3-2 against strugglers Palmeiras. Fred struck twice to help Fluminense to the spoils after a Palmeiras comeback proved to be in vain.

Atlético Mineiro’s title hopes crumbled after a disappointing draw against Vasco despite taking the lead through a Ronaldinho penalty.

Grêmio took advantage of Atlético’s draw to leapfrog them into second place after a 2-1 win against São Paulo. Goals from André Lima and Moreno were enough to overturn a Rogério Ceni penalty.

In the relegation battle, Sport Recife could only manage a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Figueirense to leave them four points from safety while Cruzeiro cruised to a 3-1 win over 17th placed Bahia leaving the away side hovering precariously over the relegation zone.

In other games, a Roger goal gave Ponte Preta a 1-0 victory against Internacional and a Renato Abreu penalty was enough for Flamengo as they overcame Náutico 1-0.
