AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato missed a first-half penalty as the Rossoneri were beaten 3-1 at home to Fiorentina today.

The injury-plagued striker scored his first goal for Milan in 11 months on Tuesday, when he rescued a point against Malaga in the Champions League.

However, the Brazilian failed to double that tally and equalise for Milan when he fired a penalty high over the crossbar.

Fiorentina had taken an early lead through Alberto Aquilani before Borja Valero added a second shortly before the break, with a fine individual effort.

Pato, who recently returned from a long-term abductor injury, was replaced at half-time by Giampaolo Pazzini.

The substitute pulled one back for the hosts from close range and coach Massimiliano Allegri threw on Brazilian Robinho in search of a quickfire equaliser.

However, the visitors completed the scoring through Mounir El Hamdaoui and sealed the three points to keep them fourth in Serie A.

Milan have now lost six of their 12 games which has left them languishing in 13th place with just 14 points.
