David Luiz was ruled out of Chelsea’s game with Liverpool today due to illness but should be fit for Brazil’s friendly with Colombia on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old defender was out of the Stamford Bridge clash, which ended 1-1, due to a sore throat.

The Blues' medical department declared the Brazilian unfit to play so captain John Terry came back into the starting eleven to partner Branislav Ivanović at the heart of defence.

Luiz posted on Twitter: "I'm sad. I wanted to play today, but I can't because of tonsillitis. Come on CFC u have my support!"

However, the problem will not prevent Luiz from travelling to the United States with teammates Ramires and Oscar for the international friendly.

The game at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is scheduled to kick-off at 00:30 BST in three days' time.
