Former Brazil coach Dunga has dismissed the idea of Lúcio leaving Juventus in January, despite the defender having to wait for his chance in the starting eleven.

The 34-year-old signed a two year contract with the Italian champions this summer but has only made three appearances due to an ankle ligament injury.

The Bianconeri currently sit one point clear at the top of Serie A and Antonio Conte’s faith in his other three centre-backs leaves no space for the former Seleção captain.

However, Dunga, who spent six years playing in Italy between 1987 and 1993, believes his former international player will remain with Juve and wait for his chance.

He told Corriere dello Sport: “Am I surprised to see Lucio so little time on the field? I think it’s only a matter of time before he plays, he pays for being injured early in the season.

“Could he leave Juve in January? He is one who always wants to play and I’m sure he is doing everything to convince Conte of his talents. I would be surprised if he left.

“Lucio likes difficult things and he’s not a guy who leaves during battles.”

Dunga, who has also commented on the situations of fellow Brazilians Felipe Melo and Chelsea’s Oscar, gave some advice to the former Inter defender.

“What do I say to him? To stay calm and use all the opportunities he gets,” he added.

“As soon as he becomes a regular he won’t leave the first-team.”
