Roberto Carlos only retired from playing football earlier this year, but the former Real Madrid star is already learning the ropes of management under Dutch coach Guus Hiddink at Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Carlos, who played for Anzhi up until his retirement, is currently the club’s director of football while he takes his coaching badges. He told Globo Esporte his plans for the future.

“I am adapting to life off the field, organising the club and making the team more professional. I have four more years of contract and want to stay in Anzhi as director.

“Hiddink has taught me very well with his assistants. He has mainly taught me how to train and talk to the players. Also, I am finishing my coaching course. The priority when this happens, is to stay with Anzhi. There will always be offers, but my thought is to continue here.”

And one of the aims of Carlos as director of football is to recruit some young talented players from South America to Anzhi.

“I’m watching the Brazilian football fromhere. The scouts from Anzhi go all over Brazil seeking players. We also want to bring players from Argentina and Uruguay over here as well. Though the Brazilians are the best of all.”
