Tottenham midfielder Sandro could be set to return on Sunday in time to face Manchester City, after missing his side’s midweek Europa League tie with a calf strain.
Sandro, 23, picked up the injury in last weekend’s clash with Wigan, but stands a chance of being fit for the fixture at Etihad Arena after encouraging progress on the physio’s table.
The Brazilian’s return holds increased importance for André Villas-Boas’ side in the continued absence of Belgian Moussa Dembele, with whom the former Internacional midfielder had struck up a strong partnership in the middle of the park.
It is likely that, should Sandro win his fitness battle in time, he will partner Tom Huddlestone in midfield as Spurs look to get back to winning ways against the reigning Premier League champions.
Provisional squad: Friedel, Lloris, Cudicini, Gomes, Naughton, Walker, Caulker, Gallas, Dawson, Vertonghen, Livermore, Parrett, Huddlestone, Mason, Carroll, Sandro, Sigurdsson, Lennon, Townsend, Bale, Falque, Dempsey, Obika, Defoe, Adebayor.
