Atlético Mineiro keen to renew Ronaldinho's contract
Atlético Mineiro are keen to renew the contract of star player Ronaldinho amid rumours that Fluminense are interested in signing the playmaker.
The 32-year-old penned a six-month deal with the Galo in June after cancelling his contract with Flamengo.
The former Barcelona and AC Milan star has helped Atletico mount an unlikely title challenge this season, which unfortunately looks unlikely now after slipping nine points away from league leaders Fluminense with just four games remaining.
However, the club feels that Ronaldinho deserves a contract extension in recognition of his contribution throughout the Brasileirão campaign.
"Ronaldinho deserves a renewal for another season for what he did," director of football Eduardo Maluf told Terra.
"At the right moment, we will talk to him about it. We will spare no efforts to renew the contract with him."
Recent reports have linked the former Seleção star with a move back to Rio de Janeiro but Fluminense’s director of football Rodrigo Caetano has denied any negotiations.
